Srinagar is where most trips start, and it's honestly hard not to like it. Dal Lake, houseboats, shikara rides, it's calm and pretty at the same time. Most people spend a couple of days here before heading further into the valley.
These gardens, Nishat, Shalimar, and Chashme Shahi, are old, but they've aged well. Neatly laid out lawns, fountains, and mountain views in the background, it's the kind of place you just slow down and walk through without checking your phone every five minutes.
If you want a break from the touristy spots, the Old City is worth a walk. Narrow lanes, old wooden houses, local shops, and a completely different pace of life. It gives you a real feel of Srinagar beyond the lake and gardens.
Gulmarg is where things get a bit more exciting, especially if you're into the gondola ride or just want to be surrounded by proper mountain views. Winters bring snow and skiing, summers bring cool weather and green meadows, either way it's a highlight most people remember.
Pahalgam feels more laid-back, rivers, pine forests, and quiet valleys. It's a good spot to just sit by the water for a while or take a short pony ride around. A lot of families end up liking this stop the most.
Sonmarg literally means meadow of gold, and it lives up to that with its golden landscape and glacier views. It's usually one of the last stops, and a nice one to end the trip on before heading back.
